Programme of External Events

David Druett has organized a restaurant meal for the evening following our Society meeting at the show at Konaki Restaurant, Coptic Street, WC1A 1NH.

Details here: https://bwisc.org/agm-auction

Now that we have a firm date I hope it will galvanise members into thinking about how each one of us could help the cause by donating some material for auction, helping with the organisation , or perhaps most important of all spending some money at the auction. Bidding will be possible remotely or by prior ‘postal’ bids, aa well as in the room where we expect to have fun.

We are extremely grateful for recent donations during the Christmas holidays and indeed most grateful for every donation small or large and in cash or in kind that we have had since the start, but I am afraid we still need an average of £250 per member to finish the appeal. A couple of items in your duplicates box may well help us to reach our target at 2020. Please consider helping in this way and sending your contribution to Tomorrow’s Royal, 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW.  If you wish to speak with me about a donation, a gift of material or the naming of a space or item please send me a text and I’ll call you back: +44 (0) 7771563552.

Many philatelic items will be on show at the RPSL stand at 2020, more quirky items like a Coronation chair or a piece of the red carpet used by Her Majesty the Queen at the opening may be viewed at no 15, Abchurch Lane.

Peter Cockburn FRPSL, Chairman Fund Raising Committee.

The Society will hold a dinner at Kilis Restaurant in Islington for members and guests only.

INVITATION TO AIJP ACADEMY & CONGRESS FOR FRIENDS OF PHILATELIC LITERATURE

(Association Internationale des Journalistes Philatéliques)

LONDON 2020
8 May 2020 at 15 Abchurch Lane, London

CONTEXT

Today the Royal Philatelic Society London (RPSL) is perceived internationally as the centre of excellence in philately. Since its foundation 150 years ago, publishing lecture manuscripts and in that way widely advertising the Society’s expertise has been a key concern in its policy.

SCOPE

Over the last few decades, the number of offprints has increased considerably, as modern technical possibilities allow authors to prepare their own “papers” to accompany displays and presentations given to the Society. These handouts distributed at the meetings are significant contributions to literature, as many of them include valuable material for philatelic scholars and collectors. The forthcoming open symposium will be organised by the AIJP for the benefit of the RPSL and will focus on handouts and their historical evolvement and importance.

The program has been worked out by Jonas Hällström RDP FRPSL, and the AIJP is indebted to him for his service.
